New concretes for the infrastructure; energy and resource optimized

Short Description

With the outlined research project "ERESCON" (Energy and Resource Efficient Concrete for Infrastructure) a contribution to climate protection and sustainable development has been made. By the developed innovative concrete technology the composition of concrete for infrastructure can be improved, so that CO2-emission (the Global Warming Potential GWP) and primary energy demand is reduced while the functionality (workability, strength and durability) of "eco-concrete" is equivalent to normal standard concrete.

Key points of the innovative concrete technology are the assessment of the environmental impact and cost-efficiency of source materials as well as concrete-recipes, the increase of the packing-density of granular materials of the concrete mix, the reduction of its water demand (particularly of the fine powder-materials by microfillers), an optimized composition of the mixture of aggregates, binder and additives associated with partly substitution of Portland cement clinker by “eco-fillers” and finally the prove of equivalent performance of new eco-concrete to standard normal concrete.
